A man who beheaded his HIV positive, 13 year old brother on allegations of saving him from a burden of taking ARVs all his life has been accused of wanting to sell the head in South Africa to sangomas.
Brighton Gijima, 25, of Village 10 Chinzvinzvi Resettlement in Ndali told his bedridden mother that his family could not remain poverty stricken when they had a sick child who could be killed and his body parts sold at a premium price in South Africa.
Memory Mhangami, a relative to the family revealed that two days before he killed his brother, Gijima told his mother that he had been promised a commuter omnibus by unknown men based in South Africa and saw his brother as an easy target.
It is alleged that Brighton slit his brothers throat with a kitchen knife but was caught in the act of detaching the head from the dead body by Kias Magaisa, 67, his grandmother.
He fled the scene but was apprehended four days later by the police.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident and said the suspect showed no signs of mental illness during interogation.
