A 56 year old woman from Cowdray park suburb in Bulawayo was beaten up by her 34 year old lover after he discovered that she had spent the night with another man.
A court yesterday heard how Nhlanhla Moyo got home early in the morning on August 1 this year to find Ms Susan Maphala with another man in the house.
Moyo pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge for assaulting Ms Maphala with an empty beer bottle before hitting her with a brick and pots, causing her to sustain cuts on her hand, leg and head.
Western Commonage magistrate Steven Ndhlovu chided Moyo for living with a “granny.”
“You’re still young Moyo. This woman is 22 years older than you. She probably started having boyfriends before you were even born. She is old enough to be your mother anyway.
“Such behaviour will get you into trouble in the future. You have to stop this and try to find someone your age,” said Ndhlovu as he handed Moyo a 14 months jail sentence.
He suspended four months for five years on condition of good behaviour while a further 10 months were commuted to 490 hours of community service at Mahlathini Primary School in Cowdray Park.
In his defence, Moyo said: “Your Worship I got angry at what I came home to. I was drunk at that time so I lost control of myself.”
The relationship between the other man and Ms Maphala was not fully disclosed in court but he was only referred to as a visitor.
